Friday, 21 January 2011 02:46 | PDF | Print | E-mail

Gen Con Indy 2011

Friday August 5, 2011 at 12:00 PM noon.

Time: 1 hour

Presented by Dave Graham, Author of Battle Gaming: The New American Sport

Just how has Dave Graham’s work to consolidate the American battle gaming sport rules under a single OGL system provided a new business opportunity to role playing and strategy game designers? Graham will provide a brief presentation on the history of live action battle and role playing games and their evolution towards the mainstream American consciousness. He will go into some detail about the Warrior Code® Open Battle Gaming System which his company Battle Game Sports and Hobbies has published under the Open Game License.  Explaining how this will be a growth opportunity for game designers who can produce quality live strategy game and LARP scenarios, he will discuss how his company plans to vet and play test material for the live action gaming market.

Presenter

Dave Graham has been playing live battle gaming, LARP, and medieval combat sports since 1983. A founding director of Dagorhir Battle Gaming Association in 1995, Dave has had a long history of exploring the business of LARP and live battle gaming. In 2003, he started Action Armory an equipment supplier for the LARP and live battle game market. In 2007, he was partner in Positive Learning Adventures for Youth, running afterschool and summer camps with battle game and LARP themes.  In 2010, Dave started Battle Game Sports and Hobbies with the goal of bringing live battle gaming, LARP and medieval combat sports into the mainstream.

Trend

One could say that fantasy games are having a moment. Humans vs. Zombies, which pits the living against the dead in an elaborate game of tag, is taking over campuses from Akron, Ohio, to Australia. Quidditch, that wizarding sport of J. K. Rowling's imagination, is played on about 400 campuses. And students are engaging in medieval combat in sport like Ragnarok, Dagorhir and Belegarth. Let the games begin.
